Title
Study for the Male Nude at Right above the Persian Sibyl after Michelangelo Buonarotti
Artist
Scott Kirkman
Medium
Drawing - Graphite On Paper
Description
A powerful male nude figure study in 4H, 2H, HB, and B graphite, adapting a classic Renaissance drawing by Michelangelo. The artist's gentle measured layering of the graphite creates an appealingly clean and smooth look, almost a silvery quality, even as his eye for detail faithfully renders every fine detail of the strong and muscular male back. From the light and shadows and reflections of the modeling of the man's flesh, the viewer can almost feel the vigorous strength and energy of the twisting figure. Thus this new work could be said to actually improve upon the original red-chalk drawing by the Old Master of the Italian Renaissance.
